Any Given Sunday in the NFL & New Winners in the Football Pool

Snow Consulting 5th Annual Pick'em Pool

Seems like this football season has kept most of us on our toes.  The St. Louis Rams showed their stuff this weekend defeating the Raiders 52 to NOTHING.  That had to be a fun game for Rams fans everywhere.  My N.O. Saints showed that they CAN win on the road (if not at home) by defeating the Steelers 35-32.  Now, let’s hope they can win at home next weekend against the Panthers.  And of course, the Packers showed the Patriots what they are all about, by coming out to an early lead and holding on to win 26-21.  How did you do in your picks?

And this week we have 3 winners in the Football Pick’em Pool:

  • Andre Colantuono  “is it hockey season yet?” with 12
  • Michael Coley “Don’t Go Bacon My Picks” with 11
  • James Seligman  “SBXLVIII Enough Said” with 10

Congratulations to the winners!  It is fun to see who will win each week, will it be you next week?

Congratulations to Dawgs Picks for Taking 1st Place in the Football Pool!

Snow Consulting 5th Annual Pick'em Pool

Congratulations to Dawgs Picks for Taking 1st Place in the Football Pool!

It’s another case of “Any Given Sunday” in the NFL this week.  We had a BLOWOUT game between Green Bay and Chicago this week.  The Packers looked great as they smoked the Bears 55 – 14.  That wasn’t the only lopsided game we saw this week.  The Rams looked great coming out against the Cardinals, but how quickly did the tides turn when the Cardinals scored 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter?  The final there was 31 Cardinals – 14 Rams.

And for fellow Saints fans, how about that last minute Hail Mary pass thrown by Brees with only seconds remaining against the 49ers?  The pass was caught by Jimmy Graham (and should have ended the game), but was called back for Offensive Pass Interference.   The question around was, “Did Jimmy actually push off?  Should Offensive Pass Interference been called?”  In my opinion, there shouldn’t have been a flag, and the game should have been over at that point, but I am quite biased!  That game went to the 49ers in OT with a score of 27-24.

There is no doubt this week with our Football Pool winners!  Congrats to the winners!!  How did you do?

Bloggers CAN Make Money in Affiliate Marketing

I just returned a couple of weeks ago from another successful ShareaSale Think Tank event in Charlotte, NC. What do I mean by successful? I got to see many long time friends and colleagues, met several new bloggers from various backgrounds and topics, and came away with a few new tidbits of knowledge to help my team heading into the holiday season.

The conference these past two years has had one theme, bridge the gap between affiliate marketing and bloggers.

The ShareaSale team has done an excellent job of attending various blogger conferences, in an effort to get them to Think Tank and further educate them on why Affiliate Marketing is a must for their blog. The attendance was up, and so was the enthusiasm from most of the bloggers.

Here is my takeaway:

I don’t need to discuss how to read and write. Bloggers know what they want to write and obviously do an incredible job since they have built up a following of repeat readers and have a healthy stream of followers through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc.

What I would like to do is give three examples of bloggers who attended last year’s Think Tank in Denver and tell you what we discussed and the outcome for each.

1. I told each blogger to review recent analytics and locate their top 5 most visited “archived” posts from the last 90 days. It didn’t matter if it was two months old or two years old.

2. Browse various affiliate networks such as ShareaSale and find a merchant that fits the theme of those 5 posts.

3. Integrate a couple of text links into the content, as well as, a product link with image to give visual affect.

4. Keep an eye on analytics and statistics through the network to see if sales occur.

Here was the outcome from each:

One blogger said that in those five posts, over the span of three months, they generated $280 in commissions. A second blogger made $572 in commissions and the third blogger made $922 in commissions!

I do want to say that these posts were updated with links for November and December 2013 and January 2014, so the numbers were definitely higher due to holiday traffic. Does it matter though? They made money!

Now, go back to the original post date. What did they get paid to create the post? $50? $100? Product cost waived?

Let’s say those bloggers who made money on old posts had integrated affiliate links into those posts from the beginning. Just imagine the recurring commissions on posts, even after they were archived.

I had conversations with a few more in Charlotte regarding these and other optimization tips and can’t wait to hear the results come the New Year.

Are you ready to make some money now?! Can we get past the idea that getting paid up front is the only option to optimizing your blog? Let’s talk affiliate marketing! I’m available anytime to chat. Now is the time with the holiday shopping season on our door step.

Snow Consulting Football Pool Recap & Winners

Snow Consulting 5th Annual Pick'em PoolIt was another interesting week in the NFL. There were brutal team performances and some stellar performances. Some coming from unexpected players. My St. Louis Rams proved yet again they are the true under-achievers, losing 34-7 to the cross-state rival Kansas City Chiefs. The New York Jets continue their dismal play and the QB controversy that everyone thought would eventually happened. Unfortunately, it didn’t matter who played. After three interceptions in the first quarter, Geno Smith was pulled in favor of Michael Vick. Vick came in and threw one interception, was sacked four times and fumbled on two occasions. Bills beat the Jets 43-23. The Bears were embarrassed by Tom Brady and the Patriots 51-23, The Texans rolled over the Titans 30-16 and the Cardinals held on for a 24-20 win against the Eagles. The Arizona Cardinals now sit at 6-1, while the Eagles drop to 5-2.

Across the pond in London, the Detroit Lions got off to a slow start and fell behind 21-0 to the Atlanta Falcons. However, in the second half it was a completely different team. In the waning seconds of regulation time, kicker Matt Prater missed his chance at winning the game for his team, but was bailed out as a delay of game penalty was called. He didn’t disappoint on his second chance. Lions win 22-21.

Sunday afternoon featured one of the best career performances from Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. Against a Colts defense that has played quite well this season. Ben threw for a career high 522 yards and 6 TD’s en route to a 51-34 shootout win. He led all fantasy QB’s this week. Sunday Night primetime brought the best out of the New Orleans Saints. They finally came to play and defeated the Green Bay Packers 44-23 behind 311 yards passing and 3 TD’s from Drew Brees.

Monday night had the upstart Dallas Cowboys, sitting with a record of 6-1, hosting their division rivals the Washington Redskins who had a record of 2-5. It was a thriller featuring for the most part two backup quarterbacks in Colt McCoy (Redskins) and Brandon Wheeden (Cowboys) as Romo was injured in the second half. Oddly enough, both these players were on the Cleveland Browns the past couple of seasons. The game went to overtime locked at 17-17. McCoy led a final drive that turned into a 40 yard game-winning field goal by kicker Kai Forbath. Cowboys running back Demarco Murray extended his league record by rushing for over 100 yards in 8 straight games.

In our Snow Consulting Football Pool, the usual candidates earn weekly honors. Not sure how they do it! Team Wojo’s Locks of the Week! easily won with 12 picks on the week. Team Let It Snow finished with 10 wins, while BigAlRap held off eight others who finished with 9 wins, but won by way of tiebreaker. Overall standings has team Let It Snow sitting in first with 74, Royals Win in 2014 in 2nd with 67, Wojo’s Locks of the Week! in 3rd with 66, ACE and Heart of a Philanthropist tied for 4th with 64.

How did you do this week? Where do you sit in the standings?
